One of our dogs died a few weeks ago due to liver problems because of something she ate, and ever since then, we have been switching our surviving dog’s food. She is a chihuahua-terrier mix and is 8 years old.

Shortly after our dog died, she rejected her usual Alpo canned food and Beneful dry food. We started feeding her Innova mixed with boiled chicken liver, boiled chicken breast, and recently, potatoes and meat. She was eating the liver and chicken breast fine and would gobble it up, but recently she all of a sudden stopped wanting it so we gave her the potatoes and meat.

She hasn’t really pooped in a while, (we think it was because of the high fiber in Innova so we stopped feeding it) but when she does it’s kind of a loose stool. Just today she pooped blood just once. Besides that, there’s nothing really wrong with her. No attitude problems, no apathy, no lethargy or vomiting.

She is a very emotionally sensitive little dog. When she hears a loud noise or if someone in the family shouts she’ll run away. We think that she may be behaving this way because of the death of our other dog but that theory is kind of going out the window.

Her favorite food was Beneful, but only because she would take the red meat bits out of the food and leave the rest scattered on the floor. Ever since our other dog died, she didn’t want to eat it anymore. I know it’s a bad idea to switch a dog’s food so often but we’re at our wits end because we want her to eat and I"m scared that she’ll get sick like my other dog. Any ideas?

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions. I will try to somehow get her to eat the Innova. We recently tried Nutro but I don’t trust it. She didn’t even give it a second glance. I think we may have turned her into a finicky eater. We still don’t know if we’re going to get another dog though.
