In February, we got an adorable 2 month old Chihuahua from a breeder. Her name is Lola. My parents are pretty against neutering/spaying, especially my dad. He calls it "mutilation" and "against nature". We have a seven y/o male Chihuahua, Tito, who isn’t neutered (and probably never will be). Anyways, so as Lola grew we noticed she was kinda smaller than usual. Tito is a big Chihuahua (about 10 lbs). Though Lola’s young, she’s small for her age (she weighs in at a whopping 2.4 pounds). She turned 1 y/o today.

My mom recently moved to Paraguay (South America) and took Lola with her. Before she went, I made my mom promise to get Lola fixed (esp. because in Paraguay there are a LOT of stray dogs and she could easily get pregnant). A few weeks ago, she went to a vet who told her Lola is very small and will probably remain so. She said she’s a "Type One" Chihuahua, which is the smallest kind, and can basically never have kids because her body can’t support it. I could understand, cause Lola is about the size of a puppy herself. I spoke to my mom and she said she would get her spayed soon.

Today, she called and said that she went to another vet and the vet told her not to get Lola fixed. The vet apparently was like "Oh no! Don’t fix her! I’ll pay you 00 for her! She’s so cute; she should definitely have puppies!" So of course my mom buys into it and agrees not to get her fixed (she didn’t sell her or anything). Apparently, the vet promised that she would be there every step of the pregnancy and would stay with her for free during the labor and help her give birth to her puppies.

I was so upset I started crying. I am absolutely sure that Lola cannot carry puppies, let alone birth them. I think this second vet isn”t very legit and shouldn’t be telling my mom that. Now my dad agrees and they’re not getting her spayed.

How can I tell my mom that it is absolutely necessary for Lola to get spayed? She weighs like 3 pounds! My parents are stubborn. I’ve told them that she’ll die and they just brush that off as me being paranoid. The first vet was right and I know it! Help!
Sorry this is so long :/
Okay, thank you to everyone who contributed. Really appreciate the support.

But Cocomookie, I cannot believe you would dare to even think that, never mind have the nerve to type that out. Actually, my parents and I are Hispanic, and that has NOTHING to do with this problem. I hope you think twice before making a comment like that again.

Also, I just want to add that if by some miracle she does have puppies, I know my parents will take very good care of them. Its not the life of the puppies I’m worried about, its Lola!

But thank you everyone so much for your information, and support! I’m not giving up yet!
