How to crate train my chihuahua?
I just got a 7 week old chihuahua (nameless at this moment)
And I am needing to get her potty trained to go outside. I have had her since saturday. She has slept in the bed the first night just kind nestled in a blanket since i know she is young and has been taken away from her mommy and needs that warmth and comfort. Problem is since she isnt house trained i dont want her making accidents in the bed and when i leave and can not take her with me im going to need her in a kennel. My boyfriend and I potty trained our german shepherd before and he was a night mare. I just want this to go smooth. IF possible! I read about putting a ticking clock in the kennel and a heating bad. I have a teddy bear, some toys, and a little chew bone in there now. I let her sleep in my bed last night and just brought her out ever few hours and she was dry all night. I take away her food and so on also.I just need to know hows the best way to get her comfortable in her kennel where she isnt whining. any one?
Can someone give me any tips about potty training a 1 year old Chihuahua?
I love her to death. But the accidents have GOT to stop!
What is the next step in successfully pad training my chihuahua?
I’m so proud of him. He is either in his kennel while I cannot keep a close eye on him or with me. We just moved so he has not had any accidents on the fresh carpet. As soon as I get him out of his kennel, I put him in our apartment kitchen and he walks straight over to his pad and urinates! I’ve been doing this with him for about 3 weeks now. I don’t want to confuse him because he is doing so wonderful. How much longer should I do this? And what should I do next?
I live in an apartment on the second story. I have kids so I prefer for the balcony to be closed off from the kids-
Going outside is out of the question.
I need help training my chihuahua?
I have a male chihuahua that is approx. 9 wks old. He has several problems I need help with. One is that he has accidents around the house a lot now, but when we first got him he was doing great with his pad training? Second thing is that when we try to pick him up to put him in the bathroom when we have to leave for work, that he runs away and it takes us forever to catch him! Which will cause us to be late for work. Third is that he will sometimes snap at our faces and constantly bites on us.I know part of it is teething, but we give him chew bones and toys and he still wants to bite on us. The fourth thing is that he will dig into my shirt….this is weird, and just curious why he does this and how to stop that? I was thinking about getting another chihuahua for him to have a playmate when we are gone during the day, but we cant even handle this little terror. I have never had issues training any dog, except for him!! Please help!!!
Chihuahua Crate Training Questions?
I have a 10 week old chihuahua that I recently bought from a breeder (who is out of town at the moment) and I had a couple questions I was hoping someone here could answer.
1. How often should I get him out and play with him?
2. How long should I play with him before he goes back in?
3. How long before he is considered trained? He uses the litter box every time without even being led there and has had no accidents yet (knock on wood).
4. When can I expand his allowed area? He has a good sized area, but I don’t want to overwhelm him by giving him too much room too soon.
Thanks in advance.
When buying a puppy, what things should you look for?
Interested in adding a playmate to the family for my 10 month old puppy. I am looking at a 9 month old chihuahua who is ALSO a female. Will or should 2 female chis very close in age get along or clash? The seller says she IS potty trained. Which is HUGE for me!! She says she scratches on the door to be let out & scratches to be let back in. How can I possibly verify this?? I really do not have time right now to house break another puppy!! And I have read if an un potty trained dog comes in and starts weeing & pooing everywhere, this could very well cause the puppy who is already house broken to start having accidents everywhere in attempt to cover each others scent. I should definitely get the 2 pups together, see how they interact, right? But how can I know if she is in fact 100% potty trained? thank you!!
Potty training our chihuahua when we aren't home much?
We recently adopted a chihuahua, about 9 months old, from a woman who was moving. She claimed the dog was potty-trained which was important to me since I don’t really have the patience or expertise to handle that myself.
Now that we’ve had Jumbo for about 3 weeks, it is very apparent that he isn’t even CLOSE to being housebroken. He has totally ruined the brand new carpet in the kids’ room and also does #1 and #2 downstairs on the hard floor.
He is home alone during the day; he can’t have run of the house so he stays in the hall bathroom (nice size) with his bed, puppy pad, food & water and is let out immediately when we get home. He will then potty outside, but it seems that he saves some (?!) for inside as well!
Not one day goes by that he isn’t messing in the house. I waited years to get a dog for this very reason. I read that we should take him out frequently but we’re not home enough to do this. He is such a sweetie but the accidents are killing me. Should I give him up?

Potty Training a Chihuahua?!?
alright, so my puppy lucy is 5 months today and she’s still not potty trained. well she goes outside when i bring her but she has accidents sometimes. i need help on having her learn how to tell me when she has to go, like scratch on the door. anyone sucessful in doing something like that? and by the way, i’m not using potty training pads, i dont "believe" in them (:
she is in her cage when I’m gone. i don’t like potty pads because it makes them think they can pee in the house just in certain spots. what if they see a rug thats the same shape and think they can pee there?!
