What are some ways to train a chihuahua?
I have one and she pees on the carpet ALL THE TIME!!!
What is the next step in successfully pad training my chihuahua?
I’m so proud of him. He is either in his kennel while I cannot keep a close eye on him or with me. We just moved so he has not had any accidents on the fresh carpet. As soon as I get him out of his kennel, I put him in our apartment kitchen and he walks straight over to his pad and urinates! I’ve been doing this with him for about 3 weeks now. I don’t want to confuse him because he is doing so wonderful. How much longer should I do this? And what should I do next?
I live in an apartment on the second story. I have kids so I prefer for the balcony to be closed off from the kids-
Going outside is out of the question.
House training a Chihuahua….help!!!?
We have had our little Kingston for about 1 month. Things started out really good. He would pee pee on the puppy pads, and stinky outside. Now he pees on pillows, blankets, rugs, carpet, anything but the pad, but now he will stinky on the pads! I can’t figure it out!!!
Help, before my husband makes us get rid of it!
I use the crate at night and take him out every morning at 6. He immediately goes 1 and 2. The problems are in the evening when we are all home in the living room watching him. He will just stop whereever he is and pee! It is driving me crazy!
Another question…we have a bed in his crate and I have all ideas he is peeing on it while in there. Should I take it out and if I do, what should I put in there for him to lie on?
Puppy pad training 6wk Chihuahua?
No she’s not from a breeder or a puppy mill. I’m sorta a foster mom, I got her two weeks ago when she was 4 weeks old so please no lectures on how she’s too young or ill-bred, its not helpful, people train muts all the time and the time I got her couldn’t be avoided because I got her from an elderly woman. I just moved in with my roommate and puppy is not housebroken or puppy pad trained. Its been getting down to 6 degrees outside here and she’s too small for the smallest sweaters they make so she won’t go to the bathroom outside which I expected because from what I understand Chihuahuas are known to do that, she’ll just sit on my feet. I’d rather train her on a puppy pad anyway because I have to leave her in my bathroom while I’m at work or at school. Right the current situation is she goes where she is, which is usually on the carpet unless she’s just waking from a nap and I put her on a puppy pad before letting her touch the floor. How can I get her to stop going on the carpet and on to a puppy pad?

Help! We need help on house training our chihuahua!?
Ok so a few months ago we adopted a 2 y.o. chihuahua. She is so adorable and we all love her! She is great with my 8 month old daughter too. However she will not go potty out side! I am getting so sick of cleaning up her messes!! We have carpet and it stinks now! I clean it and scrub it but urine stinks! She is now going in my daughters room! We have tried kenneling, time outs in the bathroom, rubbing her face in it, a swat on the butt, yelling and nothing works!! She will continue to go in the house! We rent and I cannot have this happeing to our rental house! She is so sweet but I don’t know how much more of this I can take. We have a cat and he is so good about pottying in his box. Any ideas? What would you do? She is spayed, and its not medical, its just lazyness. Should we re-home her to someone who can handle this? I am busy as a mom and I don’t need one more kid pooping let a lone in the house! Thanks for your help!!
help with potty training a chihuahua!!!?
my chihuahua is 1 yr old. we have tried the kennel thing, walking on a leash, using pet deodorizer when she uses the bathroom inside, letting her out every 10 mins., basically everything. we don’t have any other dogs inside. if i bring her outside and she uses the bathroom as soon as i bring her back in she pees. it seems like she pees about every 2 mins. what should i do? i need advice because she is ruining my carpet. i have also tried praising her and feeding and watering her in the morning time so she won’t have to go at night. that doesn’t work either. i heard from several people that chihuahuas are not potty trainable. we also live on 2 acres in the country so she is free to roam about.
would you feel frustrated with this stupid chihuahua dog?
i just adopted a chihuahua dog for a few weeks. i shall only call this dog "it", because it is not adorable at all.
i have a backyard. if i put it outside for a while, it will dig big holes everywhere which destroy all those things that i just planted. it is spring time, so all the plants are still young and tiny. so i can’t really put them back in the soil again. i have to start with new seeds again.
if i put it inside the house, it will urinate everywhere! even though i have a specific area with a newspaper with her urine scent on it, i don’t even change it, i just dry that newspaper. so far, this stupid dog has urinated on my carpet for a total 9 times! and it doesn’t show much signs when it wants to urinate. one time, while it was playing with me, with a toy in its mouth. all of sudden, it just stopped running, and started peeing on the carpet! and most frustrating part is that when it does that inside the house, it is very sneaky. it will go to another room where i can’t see it. and pee really quick, so i won’t even have enough time to catch it doing it.
and if i take the dog outside, it doesn’t really care to follow me at all. it just wants to go wherever it wants to go. Twice, i tried to see if it can follow me, i took off the leash. this stupid dog immediately ran across the street, and didn’t even bother to turn back when i called its name.

comparing with my previous neighbor’s puppy dogs, they were puppies when i first met them. i didn’t feed them daily, and i never used a leash on them. but they really follow me anywhere i go (if i let them). at night time, sometimes, they just came to my room, and sleep for a few hours before i go to sleep. and i let them drink water freely in my room, they never urinate in my room. so with those neighbor’s dogs, i have never really spent any time training them at all, but they were all so adorable.
with my current dog, i have no happiness, but a lot of time wasted on the stupid dog, and lots of frustrations.
so you tell me, if you were me, would you feel the same way? comments are welcome, i don’t want to hear any suggestions, because i am not gonna keep it any more.
for those people who don’t feel it my way, you are free to do so. but be sure to tell how your dogs behave usually.
i have never owned a dog 24 hours 7 days a week. so i don’t really know how a dog should behave. is my dog normal or what?
Pad training a chihuahua. HELP!?
ok so i have a 2 month old chihuahua. he is a cutey and will "most of the time" use his pad to pee on. but he practically refuses to use it to poop! what can i do to get him to use the pad for both types of business? oh by the way how often should i let him use the pad before throwing it away?
oh and this is really wierd but he uses the pad in my room but wants to pee on the carpet in my mom’s room even though we have a pad set out for him there?
The reason he can’t go outside is because its too damn hot. I am living in the middle east and its easier to have him trained inside then outside. plus i live upstairs and there is no way to let him out everytime he needs to. I have stopped feeding him late and stopped the water intake before bedtime.
Question about leaving a pup/dog alone?
Hi Everyone
We are buying a house in the next couple of months and I have always had pets growing up. I would love to get a little dog, maybe a chihuahua or a Pomeranian, but I worry about leaving them home during the day while we are both in work. They would be alone for about 9 hours from when we leave in the morning and when we return. I am worried it would be cruel to leave them for that time. Although I would make it up in the evenings with walks and playtime etc. I would also walk them in the morning before i’d leave for work. Anyway my question is would it be selfish of me to want to have a dog and leave it home alone (in the house with a dog-flap on the door), or is it something that a lot of people have to do?
Thanks in advance,.. ![]()

Thanks everyone, thats the thing though I live in Kildare and our jobs are in Dublin so its about a 30 minute drive in the mornings, it really wouldnt be possible to make it home and back in the 45 minute lunch break. maybe I will loko into adopting an older dog rather than a puppy, I dont really have a preference to age. I would leave them in the kitchen (Its a big room) where there is no furniture to destroy or carpet to ruin
we would spend a lot of time with the dog in the evenings, training, walking, playing, so hopefully that will make up for the lonely day
