training chihuahua?
Is it ok to use diced ham from the deli of a grocery store to use as treats to train my chihuahua? I have bisquits for her, but they are hard for her to eat, even broken down. If not ham, then another small, soft treat? Like what?
I wouldn’t use ham, as it is very high in salt. Small pieces of unseasoned chicken or turkey would be better. Or even cheese, in small doses.
you cant train a chihuahua! they are nasty little beasts
Yes! I have a chihuahua and I gave her ham when teaching her how to shake…. she learned in just three minutes! I also use it sometimes for potty training, when I run out of treats. Just dont give her too much ham!
You can find plenty of soft dog treats at almost any store. I would stay away from anything you eat yourself. If you dont train the Chi right from the start we will be a mean bad doggie!
it depends what kind of ham. like chicken is good
ham is ok as long as you don’t giver her too much. You can buy soft treats from pet stores just stay away from ones that have propynol glycol in them!! Its dirived from anti-freeze!
they make traing treats that are soft….stay away from feeding your dog pork….if you must feed table food, feed her a little chicken breast.
Dice the ham up into tiny cubes. Overfeeding your chihuahua can be fatal for him.
Ham can cause Pancreatitis in dogs as it humans if not cooked well the fat content s very high

Okay i have had a chi for 10 years now and i can tell you a lot about their digestive systems. I feel a little tiny bit of meat or something without any spices is okay because god knows what they are putting in most dog treats now a days cant be any better than what we eat, So yeah in moderation and watch out for spices and to much sodium…
You can give dogs ham, but not too much. I would suggest soft dog treats from the store. (My opinion.) I know that you can’t feed them raisins or grapes, chicken bones & popcorn can give them problems too.
Oh, PLEASE, Lax. If you can train a spider (and you can!), then a Chi will be a cinch.
Yes, ham is fine if that’s what she wants. Go for the low sodium ham. I recommend this to my students all the time. You can’t use a reinforcer that the dog doesn’t like as a reward! If you tried to train me to speak French using cauliflower for rewards, I would not like it, would not want to learn to speak French, and would not like the training sessions. Chocolate would be another story, c’est vrai.
