My Genuine Chihuahua Testimonial.

We acquired our first Chihuahua just six months ago; I was perhaps not that enthusiastic at the time.

She was an attractive little bitch, her predominant color is chocolate with tan markings, when we collected her she most certainly looked the part and my wife could hardly contain her joy on our journey home. She had long coveted the Chihuahua breed and her careful research and attention to detail of the breed best suited to us, was now being rewarded.

From my point of view as an “alpha male”, I had my doubts about the whole concept of possessing a ‘toy’ dog, this was not only a ‘toy’ variety of dog, but it was also the smallest of all dog breeds! Is this a dog for a real man?

I have always been a dog lover and in the past and I have been a great admirer of the Border collie, we have in the past  had two of these dogs, both female and we have also had a Border collie cross, male dog. I have always looked upon this breed and as the most intelligent and personable of dogs.

So I have now to step down in scale for a ‘lapdog’, which my wife says , given our present circumstances, will be the best option for us, at our time of life, we are both over sixty years of age. The need to adequately exercise the Border collie is certainly a big commitment and is a daily obligation which we would both find difficult to fulfill. So after careful consideration we decided on the Chihuahua.

We are now proud owners of this lovely little chi! We have in these six months settled her in well and she has got through the sometimes difficult, ‘potty training phase’. But her personality and appeal is emerging fast and we are so very pleased with her. She is all that my wife expected and a great deal more than I thought she would be. I am proud to say I am not afraid to take her out on her harness and lead, she steps out so confidently and her positive and assured attitude rubs off on me, she is very bold and is not at all nervous or afraid of anything, she is a real pleasure to walk, and be seen with.

Other people especially dog owners are almost always willing to chat and admire the little Chihuahua they are a great way to meet likeminded people, we receive many favorable compliments.

She is a very loving and friendly little dog, she loves the company of people and contrary to the sometimes published information she just adores kids. She also gets on very well with other dogs and she is best friends with our three cats, who will tolerate her , so long as she doesn’t get too rough in her attempts to play with them.

All in all she is a little treasure she doesn’t (So far) destroy the furniture, shoes and other items usually attacked by other dogs(including the collie). She is very content to cuddle up with my wife and I in front of the TV in the evening and she gives back all of our love and affection. I can understand the reason these Chihuahuas are so popular with celebrities and stars such as Paris Hilton, they give unconditional love and genuine affection.

Their very existence seems to have evolved over generations to give to us the love and attention we enjoy. I now understand why a woman’s maternal instinct can be satisfied by owning a Chihuahua.

As a survival instinct the Chihuahua has developed this ‘lapdog’ attachment to mankind, especially it seems to the woman members of mankind. In so doing the Chihuahua is able so not only  just survive but also to thrive in the special relationship this dog has with the human race. I for one am a convert and I can highly recommend the ownership of this wonderful little dog.
